Howland is a small Penobscot County town of about 1,100 people and home to Penobscot Valley High School (SAD 31, also serving Enfield, Edinburg, Lowell, Burlington, Maxfield and Passadumkeag). The town's own Recreation Department runs a summer T-Ball, Little League baseball and softball program open to surrounding towns for a fee; sign-up is by phone through the Town Office rather than an online form. No independent soccer, basketball, football, hockey or other youth sports organization based in Howland was found.
