Mount Desert's villages (Northeast Harbor, Seal Harbor, Somesville, Otter Creek) are part of the Mount Desert Island youth-sports region: kids play football, baseball, softball, basketball and golf through Acadian Youth Sports, and soccer, basketball, volleyball, running and swim team through the MDI YMCA in Bar Harbor. The town's own website could not be reached to confirm whether its recreation department runs any additional programs.
